I wear my skates everywhere except driving and going to bed. I prefer doing my weekly errands, cleaning, and going out on skates as it makes getting from A to B or any boring task a little faster and more fun.
Wearing skates in public opens up a channel of conversation with strangers, people always have a nostalgic story to tell you about skating once upon a time or someone they know that skates.
It's a nice way to connect and meet people in the community.
I love adventure and getting outdoors, skating on open roads, next to the beach, nature trails, dancing on skates & park skating.
I preach the Roller Skating gospel of community spirit, love & inclusiveness on wheels. I put my heart into bringing dreams to life by activating spaces & people. Inspiring others to dress up fabulously and morph into many styles of self expression is key.
My father owned the biggest Roller Skating rink in the Southern Hemisphere in Gippsland so I lived the 80’s childhood skate life of splash paint walls & discos. He also started a Roller Skating union to get rinks together supporting each other to lift the profile of Roller Skating as an all round beneficial activity.
I perform all over Melbourne with Skate Odyssey Melb and was hosting roller skate meet ups on the Northside. Moving between the Surf Coast and Melbourne enjoying city and beach life.
During the pandemic with the event industry at a loss I pivoted into movement and education by creating a Roller Skate School in the Surf Coast region to empower people through classes for all ages and events bringing the whole Victorian region together.
Laura aka Goldie High Roller is founding director at Surf Coast Roller Skaters school, Victorian Recreational Roller Skating Inc Association, Skaters Let’s Skate Fb group, Put Your Heart Into It events & Skate Odyssey Melb performance & event roller skate crew.
